MOVING DAY

So, I was told we would be moving to Washington, D.C. with two weeks’ notice. My first thought was, how am I going to move the plants? Before I checked if my insurance rates would change, or the cost of the (seriously high) taxes, and the other logistics of moving out of state I researched “what is the hardiness zone of sansevieria?” That’s right hardiness zone. When I brought this conversation up over dinner there was a small pause to determine if this was seriously how I spent my time with a laundry list of things to do in the short window of time before the approaching moving day. But it was. I am not apologizing for it. Plant parenting has become a serious thing for many of us now stay-at-home, work-from-home peeps due to COVID-19. For me however, I have adored turning every corner of my home into a miniature nursery. Learning how to care for each plant in the atmosphere I had. Now I must learn a whole new climate? Will they even survive? I was able to keep some of the indoor plants and pack them up carefully to join me on the road trip. However, several of them I will be donating because as I learned Hardiness Zones are a real thing. And no, sansevieria don’t really enjoy snow. So I am told.
