NEW CONSTRUCTION

The words “New Construction Project” bring me outrageous excitement. Why? Because it means brand spanking new. A chance to do what has never been done before without any worries about what may or may not be lurking behind the remodel project of the last owner’s uncle joe who was a “really good handyman”. This project that is being executed with the design firm I am oober proud to be a part of is like no other new construction interior design project I have seen before. Every detail is full of architectural elements and design that will surely knock your socks off.

But why does that matter to you?  Well, if you want my advice in the world of new construction here is what I am learning.  Number one, you have to love your contractor.  I don’t mean like their profile on instagram and see they have done some pretty impressive projects.  I mean you have to LIKE HIM/HER.  The direct person who is absorbing your cash, building your investment, and if it is the same or different person… the  one who you will see on site in the hot sweltering sun to tell you the good news and the bad news.  You want to like them at that moment, I promise you. Number two,  make a schedule, look at it, then laugh.  I mean like, laugh really hard.  Every new construction has its setbacks.  Be it weather, permitting, accidents, or delays.  The only thing you can do is look at the schedule as you would a recipe.  Let’s say it says boil water, add pasta, drain, add sauce.  Well, if the water isn’t boiling don’t yell at the pot because the pasta is waiting.  Just know that once one thing is done you can move on to the next step.  But keep happy and hungry while you wait and you will save yourself so much aggravation.
